Building my start up, one adventure at a time
Completing a wild challenge renews in me a faith in myself. It shows me what I can accomplish, if only I’m silly enough to dream up some random challenge and then boldly follow it to the end, no matter how I feel along the way.
Forget your “calling”, run a side project
Lots of people tell you to quite your job and follow your dreams, to find your calling or do work you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.
But wow, that’s a lot of pressure. What if you choose the wrong thing? What if you have no idea what your “calling” is? What if you don’t know, out of all the things you love doing, which you should pick to start a business with?
The power of a simple question
Asking a question is something we’re all capable of and it can have such a positive impact on your project. You don’t need a qualification, permission or experience. And best of all, you can do it right now.
I’m not an ‘X’, what the hell am I good at?!
Yes, when you first start up your new business this is a tough point full of self doubt, but even if you have several things going on, inevitably not all of them are likely to be working out at the same time, so to be able to keep going and keep the faith when it doesn’t feel like it’s all going as planned (or you have no idea what the plan even is), is invaluable.
The only 2 things you need to build anything
Creating anything doesn’t have to be complicated or have a secret remedy that only the lucky few know about. In essence, it just involves you being consistent at something. It’s really that simple.
Could co-working change how we live?
Whether its adventurers or digital nomads, increasing numbers of people seem to be living out of little more than 2 bags, and getting by on AirBnB and charm alone. They’ve condensed their stuff so they can maximise their experiences - awesome!
But could I live like this? Do I want to live like this?
Mind sets for building a life on your own terms
When everyone else is telling you you’re mad to give up a highly paid secure job, or your idea is crazy because that’s not how the industry works, how do you find your way through, create a path where there isn’t one and come out the other side in your own version of success?
Curiosity, courage and action: The story of a potentialist
5 years ago I gave a talk on a new type of career labelled the Potentialist. This is the short story on how, looking back, I now feel like I’m actually starting to become one.
